Recreation
We all feel the need to "get away from it all" at times. Whether this means a walk in a park or a weekend at a local bed and breakfast, or even a month at the family cottage, this section will help you get there. Plan your get-a-way in the most environmentally friendly way by shopping for products and services that keep the planet in mind. Always remember the 5 Rs: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!
A wise woman once said "a change is as good as a rest". Just getting out, on foot or on bike, in our own communities is a great way to experience them in a whole new way. Given the many environmental problems associated with mechanized travel, we would encourage you first and foremost to look into the many opportunities available right here. We are very lucky to have lots of fun, eco-friendly things to do. Much damage has occurred to our planet from people "just having fun" but that doesn't mean that we can't have any fun!
If you must travel, consider going carbon neutral (more detail is available in the travel section). Remember that you may not be able to buy environmentally friendly products where you are going, and remember to take only pictures and leave only footprints!
Always keep in mind when shopping:
1. Is the product durable or compostable? Or will it and its packaging end up in the landfill? 2. Is the product made/available locally, supporting our local economy and reducing transportation costs? 3. Does the product contain or emit toxins? 4. Did the product require energy to make? Will it require energy to operate/maintain?
