Reuse & Recycling Guide
Where to Take It

There are no organizations listed in the guide that accept food for waste reduction purposes.

Please review the information at the right on how to deal with food.

Food

A large part of a household’s garbage is usually food and its packaging. Try to reduce packaging by buying in bulk and using refillable containers at local bulk/health food stores.

Use fresh food (from farmers’ market when in season) and buy only what you can use. When at the supermarket, choose locally grown produce whenever possible. Not only will you be getting fresher and tastier produce, you will be supporting Ontario farmers and reducing the environmental impact when products are shipped from the southern U.S., Mexico and South America.

Compost all your leftover organics (see the category Compostables).

You can also donate food to Kawartha Food Share and the Peterborough Food Bank at 263 Simcoe St., Call 749-0918.
